Newham win Bristol Box Cup trophy

The Bristol Box Cup returned in style this took weekend (11th and 12th June) after a two-year absence due to Covid-19, with 87 bouts contested in all.
Held in memory of Bristol boxing stalwart Jim Hill, who died late last year, the event was stage at the city’s Ashton Gate Stadium.
In attendance were teams from all over the UK, Ireland and Croatia, which was for male and female boxers Schools boxers born in 2008, 2009 and 2010.
Among the bouts were some special contests and round-robin arrangements to maximise competition for the young people.
The tournament was enjoyed by a respectful and large audience, with former Commonwealth Bantamweight champion Ash Lane and former WBC World super middleweight champion Glenn Catley appearing as special guests.
Organiser Jo Turner said: “It was hard work, but thanks to the voluntary officials and Downend boxing team, the event was a massive success.
“Well done to all those boxers who took part.”
