John Fury and Leigh Wood at Switch Up’s fun run for mental health

The Switch Up Celebrity Fun Run for Mental Health is on Bank Holiday (Sunday 29th August) at the National Water Sports Centre, Holme Pierrepont in Nottingham.
Nottingham School of Boxing’s sister charity has organised the event for to begin at 10am, with the 5km run starting at 11am.
Among those expected to be in attendance are the family of Tyson Fury, including his father John, recently-crowned WBA (Regular) Featherweight title holder Leigh Wood and other celebrities.
The day will raise much-needed funds for Switch Up’s work with young people which is ever-more important given the mental health problems being suffered by many in the aftermath of Covid-19.
With front line services overloaded, and long NHS waiting lists, Switch Up is bidding to fill the gaps and help pick up the pieces by providing mental health support, counselling and mentoring to young people.
Boxing entertainment will sparring contests featuring boxers from around the UK, a VR boxing arena, ‘pound a round’ sessions on pads and pop-up young people’s boxing classes for Nottingham School of Boxing members.
There will also be a live band, community stalls, penalty shoot-out and basketball shooting competitions and other entertainment during the course of the day.
“It should be a great, relaxing, fun day for the community and businesses to be a part of,” said Switch Up’s Income Generation and Programme Performance Manager, George Overton.
“We’ll have food and drink available, and there’ll be plenty of smiling faces and a great opportunity to network. Most importantly, all there will be playing a vital part in supporting vulnerable people who have poor mental health.”
